As part of Unit X (see previous project) I created a short animation film about Syrian refugee swimmer Yusra Mardini, who competed for the refugee team in the Rio 2016 Olympics. Inspired by her story, I started doing more research into the Syrian war and found that it was 'started' by 14 year old Naief Abazid who spray painted 'It's your turn next Doctor Bashar al-Assad'. This lead to his and his friend's imprisonment and tortune sparking protests in the capital, eventually snowballing into the Syrian war as we know it.
I wanted to try graffiti but not in the traditional sense (I am also far too scared to break the law) so I researched into digital graffiti and made my own portable smartphone projector.
Below is the animated film that I projected onto the side of buildings and walls and then photos of the projections.
Images were shot (with difficulty) on a Nikon D3200 trying it's hardest to focus in bad light.
